The Vortex F5 is driven by the Intel ® i7-2700K Sandy Bridge processor. Our tests show that one core of our 5.0 GHz i7-2700K chip delivers the equivalent performance of a single core on a 5.67 GHz i7-980X (the amazing "Gulftown", which was the "king of the hill" in 2010). This is stunning when you think about the performance implications. The fastest Intel chip of 2010, overclocked to a lightning-fast 5.67 GHz (which would require a cooling solution delivering temperatures below -110° Celsius!) is now available in the form of our Sandy Bridge i7-2700K chip at a slower overclock of 5.0 GHz.
All this with a significantly lower heat profile than the Gulftown as well! Translation: A much less expensive cooling solution will give you a system that is a more powerful computational workhouse while remaining extremely quiet.
You can see from the Cinebench results shown above that the 4 cores/8 threads (indicated by the 4C/8T in the graphic) of the Vortex F5 basically beat the pants off of the 12-core AMD Opteron processor below it. Since Cinebench is a massively-parallel benchmark where more cores will invariably defeat fewer cores, you have a very good indication how fast each core of the Vortex F5 is crunching. It took 16-threaded Westmere chips (which are prohibitively more expensive!) to nudge out the 8-threaded i7-2700K of the Vortex F5. Notice the small change in score from the Vortex F5 (9.70 with 8 threads) to the Intel Xeon X5570 (10.33 with 16 threads). Now look at the "blowout" when comparing computers that had the same number of of physical cores: The Vortex F5 with 4 cores scored 9.70, and the 4 cores of the i7-960 scored only 5.48!
The i7-2700K comes with 4 processing cores that double to 8 with hyperthreading activated. Imagine getting 1.7 times the processing power of the stock Intel Gulftown with each of your 8 hyperthreads, and you can easily understand why the Vortex F5 is a great buy as a superior desktop supercomputer.
This system comes with 16 GB RAM, a 2 TB internal drive, and a 250 GB SSD drive that is already formatted with Windows 7 as a wicked fast boot drive. It also comes standard with a GeForce GTX 580 video card for high-end video performance. For other configuration options, call 610-818-5063 or send an email to review prices and options.
